coaching
Our experienced coaches volunteer their time to teach and guide both novice and experienced rowers. Coaches are the life blood of our league, which would not be able to function without their invaluable assistance. We are always looking for experienced coaches to join our team. If you have an interest in coaching, or are aware of someone who might be, please contact us via e-mail. We will get you in touch with our Head Coach. |
Goals |
For those with experience in competitive coaching (and without), this is an opportunity to learn another side of coaching. League participants are mixed gender adults of all ages and levels of fitness, with varying degrees of experience in sport. Some may already have previous rowing experience and others none at all. The challenge is to keep everyone safe, maintain club assets, teach novices to row and manage a wide range of expectations while challenging all participants to improve rowing technique and fitness. This should be fun for all and result in participants coming back for more in future sessions.

commitment |
One or both of two sessions each year, from June to the end of July for session 1 (before Henley) and immediately after Henley until mid-September for session 2. Two to three practices per week.
Each session consists of an "info night" (meet your crew) and approximately 10 practices, 5 regattas (usually Thursday evenings at 6pm, followed by a BBQ) and a banquet. Practices during the week start at 6:30pm for the first session and 6pm for the second. Week-end shifts begin at 8am, 10am and noon. Schedules are selected at "info night" by the coach and/or their representative. Coaches are encouraged to commit to their schedule but backup can be made available if required. |
requirements |
The job requires good communication skills, a great deal of patience and a good sense of humor. As the coach, you are the primary representative of the Rec League for your crew and your leadership should directly translate into a positive experience worth repeating. Word of mouth is one of our most valuable promotional tools.
